Well Billboard went ahead and outed some of the names of people laid off at UMG’s Island Def Jam.

We weren’t really going to name names, figured it was better but hey someone did it first.

Christian Jorg and Mark Lehman headed up Island’s New Media department and were  responsible for some stuff. They also came from Flycell .

Also, as a part of what we think were cost cutting measures a senior PR person, Karen Weissen, who was VP of PR,  was let go.

Other than that, lots of poor little people were let go. Why bother harassing them? Not like you are facebook requesting them.

So if so much cost cutting is taking place, why weren’t the heads cut off? Ok you can argue that Jorg and Lehmann probably made a lot of money, but why wasn’t the man at the very top *cough* LA *cough* affected? I bet he is is still ordering lunches from the four seasons.

According to some contacts of mine, Ke$ha had originally show cased for Island Def Jam but was passed upon.

This is the second time I can think of a hot newcomer (though how hot Ke$ha will continue to be remains to be seen) was done wrong by the IDJ. As you may or may not know, Lady Gaga was once part of the Island Def Jam stable. However, the people there could not figure out what to do with her and so she was given the boot in favor of the Estonian singer Kerli.

The question remains, who did the right thing here? Will Ke$ha’s success continue? In the end was she done a favor by not landing at IDJ?

Cowell pulled the same move in the UK, where he left Pop Idol for X Factor. So what is X Factor? It is basically American Idol, that Cowell would own rather than just appear on. Currently Cowell is just talent on American Idol (he does, however, make a lot of money off of the show and the winners albums). With X-Factor, Cowell will continue to show us the devil does indeed exist, as we are subjected to more crap and he gets richer.

Digital Music News is reporting that Ushers latest has been leaked several months ahead of street date. But why? Who is dying for an usher album 3 months in advance?

Could this be a new form of self created hype marketing by the labels? Remember that when Wayne’s tracks started leaking, Uni Motown repackaged them into an ep called Tha Leak, which only hyped up the release of Tha Carter.

Perhaps thats why Amazon “accidentally” shipped those copies.

In a questionable move,the CBS owned radio station WXRK 92.3 NOW in NY has hired….. Nick Cannon because…. he is in tune with todays youth.

“No one is more in tune with our young adult listeners than Nick. The addition of such a well-known and respected star will further resonate with and excite our entertainment-savvy listeners,” said PD and CBS Radio VP of CHR Programming Dom Theordore.  “His passion and energy for both music and radio are undeniable and we can’t wait to have him join our immensely talented crew at 92.3.”

This has to be a deliberate move to kill off a radio station.
