Layoffs started at Sony Music (the RCA label group) today. Strange after having a great year (no doubt due to Michael Jackson and Susan Boyle).
Rumors are that the RCA mobile department is no more.. Will continue to update as more info comes in.

Reznor agrees: Grammys are Old Worlds self loving hand job
Trent Reznor, who seldom tweets now, sent out the following tweet just a short while ago. We could not agree more..
The Grammys = the old guard / old media propping up their puppets trying to convince the outside world (and each other) they’re relevant. via @trent_reznor

Formerly serious actors edition.
Two confirmed “quality” actors have movies dropping in coming weeks. Both of whom were firmly established as “serious” actors in the early ’00s, but who got smacked with some of that reality shit in the past year and now have vehicle movies dropping in February (aka the movie biz’s Nevuary).
A week or so after massive cuts at the label periliously close to shutting down, Island Def Jam is bringing on industry / UMG vet Jon Vanhala as their new head of New Media / Digital Marketing / Lamb.
Some people think the savior of the music industry has been found in MusicDNA, created by the same folks that created the MP3 and thus the demise of the music industry.
Tears of a Conan

How funny is that nobody that matters is on Team Leno in the whole NBC/Leno/Conan fuckfest? You’d think that a loooong-time standup, who’s helped launch the careers of so many others (via the Tonight Show for damn near 2 decades) would get some more love, but damn. Like Conan found out this week, that’s just life in the fast-lane, playboy. Allegedly, Jay doesn’t even accept a paycheck from NBC and instead makes his living doing standup gigs around the country (mostly in Casinos). But Illbert Garenas seriously can’t see a Jay Leno contract ending with the phrase “…for the rate of $0.01 per annum…now sign this.”
We here at IDW are mostly on Team Conan, but we have to think that all of his recent stuntin on them hoes at NBC is, in some ways, meant to distract people from actually contemplating how huge of a slap in the face this is for him and, frankly, how embarrassing this is for him. As red as the carpet might be over at FOX (or FX), he’s got a long and steep uphill battle ahead of him when it comes to regaining his relevancy after his hiatus.

After a well received live video (dvd blu ray whatever), 2 sub par albums and a debut that amazed everyone, the Killers are on “hiatus.”
A band that is notoriously technophobic, and extremely worried about how they are perceived amongst their fans (read: very selective about what they sell out their music too) has decided to take some sort of break from feather shoulder pads and touring.
The Killers announce they are going on ‘hiatus’ after current tour | News | NME.COM.
